Technically, it’s not until around 8:30am CST, but who’s counting?

I usually make more resolutions on my birthday than I do on New Year’s Day. One of the biggest ones this go around is time management. I’ve usually had a terrible go of time management, especially when it comes to personal projects. I have lofty aspirations of it but never get around to putting it into effect.

This will be different. Starting right now. Right after I post this, I’m going to bed. In general, though there will be numerous occasions where this won’t happen, I will attempt to go to bed by or before 1:30am and wake up by 9:30am.

This sort of routine will be good for me, and I’ve been able to do it in the past. The big difference this time, though, will be what I do with my day after I wake up. I have notoriously putzed around the web until around 1:30pm-2:30pm, doing nothing in particular until I really “wake up”. (Ever since senior year of high school, I’ve never quite regained my grasp on mornings.) I continually make the excuse that my mind doesn’t really come alive until after 1pm, which feels like it’s true, especially since I don’t really drink any form of caffeine. This time, though, I will force myself to do creative work and get the mind going.

I’ve got loads of things that I want to do in my life, and loads of people much younger than me have been able to do them. I’m usually good at being creative for bursts of an entire day to about two weeks, but I’m normally by then and fall back into bad habits. So that I don’t burn myself out, I’m going to schedule in recreational time, giving myself a certain amount of time each day for goofing around. And, I’m actually going to take a Sabbath day, a day that I don’t do any major creative work and just rest, talk to and reflect on God, and just putz around. (If God needed a day of rest, then I sure as heck do!)

This is going to make my presence online a bit more scarce for the next few weeks until I tweak the schedule and make it just right or until I finish my current creative endeavor, which I can’t really talk about, yet. In either case, I’m gonna get stuff done!

So, here’s to a new chapter in my life and what will, hopefully, be the most creatively productive year I’ve ever had!
